"Gothtronic - by Eelco.
"Eva|3
is one the musical surprises at this year's Maschinenfest. The cold,
tension-filled sonic landscapes of the young Brit are dynamic, but are
made to have an impact on the listener. The German Fich-Art label
should therefore be happy to have signed this act, which is very much
at its
place. Hosting acts like Asche, Morgenstern and Ars Moriendi, Eva|3's
'The Great Divide' is the first officially released album (I mean on a
printed CD, rather than a CDr).
Paul Lavigne's project
is supported
by Riotmiloo, a member of the rather unknown punk band Venom Seeds.
And, Asche, Lith and Phillip Münch each did a remix. Stefan
Alt
did the artwork, which gives the artwork sort of an ant-zennic feeling.
The remixes are of the exact quality one would expect: Asche does an
outstanding job with "Crawling Rejection". Lith - often mentioned as
the 'follow-up' of Flint Glass - manages to add a firm beat on "At
First Sight" without losing a second of tension, whilst Phillip
Münch (Synapscape, Monokrom, The Rorschach Garden) completely
rebuilds "Sweet Abuse" into some sort of Rorschach Proyecto.
The ten regular songs
are diverse in
approach, but show one general vibe that Eva|3 carries out. By
combining a series of layers and loops, a sound similar to Orphx is
made, but Eva|3 is more focused on landscapes which makes 'The Great
Divide' land somewhere between mentioned Canadian act and Asche.
Hopefully we will hear more of this project, whilst the production of
these songs is outstanding and perfectly offers an original approach to
a genre that just isn't overcrowded yet. Recommendable is you like any
of the mentioned artists."
